(2020- present) - Invited Professor at Escola Superior da Saúde, Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa.
Since 2019 - Director of TOP SCIENCE (www.topscience.online), developing innovative STEM activities for kindergarten 1st and 2nd grade students, to support the scientific curricular programme of the National Ministry of Education.
(July 2016- 2019) researcher at the Plant Science Division, ITQB Nova, giving support to Natural Biopolymers and Nanotechnology targeting agriculture applications.
(2003-Jun 2016)- Director of Nutraceuticals & Delivery lab of ITQB and Coordinator of Food and Health Research Unit, at iBET, Portugal. iBET Food & Health research unit is composed by a multidisciplinary team with complementary groups of activities, namely: “Chemical analysis and Metabolism”, “Green Processes for Extraction and Formulation” and "Pre-clinical assays for Bioactivity Evaluation.
-Strong expertise in the isolation of bioactive ingredients from food and other natural sources, including botanicals and agri-food by-products. Green technologies have been applied for the recovery of enriched bioactive natural extracts and formulation of bioactive ingredients. In particular, special focus has been done on the development of integrated green fractionation and formulation technologies using eco-friendly processes, namely pressurized methodologies and supercritical fluid technologies for drying and precipitation.
Author of relevant publications in international journals with peer review: >110 published papers (>50 in the last 5 years) in international journals with prior review, 12book chapters, 3 granted patents and editor of 2 books. (h-index:36)
Several collaborations with national and international teams.
Experience in advanced training supervision post-doctoral (10), doctoral (6 as supervisor, 2 as co-sup), 22 master's degrees(11 as sup, 11 as co-sup) and >60 under-graduated students. Two of PhD thesis were co-funded by industry (SOVENA and SUMOL+COMPAL, 2national major players in the foodsector)
