Teresa Rodrigues is a Chemical Engineer with a Ph.D in the application of organic markers as indicators for Paleoclimate conditions both on land and the continent, as well as for the understanding of the hydrologic cycle. Teresa Rodrigues has extensive knowledge in geochemical laboratory techniques and requirements, with a specific expertise on sediment samples preparation for Gascromatography (GC) analyses, as well as sedimentological and general geochemistry analysis and procedures. The DivGM BioGeoChemistry lab, was implemented by Teresa Rodrigues during her PhD, and has since been also coordinated by her. The organic compounds found in the sediments allow the estimation of Sea Surface Temperature, marine productivity and continental climate changes extended to the past geological times. T. Rodrigues research interests focus on understanding the natural variations occurring within the Earth's climatic system affecting the global environment and population. Differentiating natural from anthropogenic forcing is one of the major challenges of future climate prediction. Her project aims to improve our understanding on the nature, timing and causes of past, low and high frequency changes to determine how systematic and abrupt they were. Her expertise in this area of research has crucial for the involvement in several national and international projects as well as productive collaborations with foreign labs and research groups.
