Professor of Geology, University of Salamanca. I am interested in the study of past climate and paleoceanographic changes using different proxies such as microfossils, stable isotopes, and any other proxies that can provide information of past environments. Part of my research has been focused on Atlantic and Mediterranean climate change during the last thousand years, using stable isotopes and planktonic and benthonic foraminifers to reconstruct sea surface and deep water conditions. In addition, I am interested in the response of marine pelagic systems to orbitally-induced climate changes as well as cyclostratigraphy and astrochronology with particular interest in the Mediterranean salinity crisis during the Messinian.
