Sofia Simoes

Sofia Simoes is Head of the Resource Economics Unit at LNEG-National Energy and Geology Laboratory Portugal working on energy systems transitions towards decarbonisation. She has worked as energy systems modeller at IET-JRC of the European Commission with the JRC-EU-TIMES model and as a senior researcher at the NOVA University Lisbon. Her employment experience includes Shell Portugal, the Portuguese Environment Agency and SEIA, SA, a Portuguese environmental consultancy. She has cooperated in several national and EU research projects on energy-economy-environment modelling. She has a PhD from Leiden University, The Netherlands, and a MSc. in Environmental Management and Policy from Lund University, Sweden. Her BSc Degree is in Environmental Engineering. She has extensively worked as a consultant for the Portuguese Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of the Environment.
