Shan Chung

Shan Chung, Ph.D., is currently a Director and Senior Principal Scientist in the Department of BioAnalytical Sciences (BAS) at Genentech. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from National Taiwan University, his Master’s degree in Immunology from Auburn University, and his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his postdoctoral training in Dr. Jack Strominger’s lab at Harvard University as a National Multiple Sclerosis Society Fellow, working on Gene Expression and Protein Engineering of T-cell receptors. Shan worked at Genzyme and Peptimmune in Greater Boston for more than 10 years before joining Genentech in 2006. He currently leads the Effector Function and Cell Biology group in BAS. The responsibilities of his group include assessing Fc effector functions of antibody drug candidates and supporting development and validation of neutralizing antibody assays. Shan has extensive experience on development and validation of PK, immunogenicity, effector function, and potency assays and has supported more than 50 successful IND/BLA filings in Genentech.
