Dale R. Shires

Dale R. Shires received the bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from the University of Delaware. He has been an employee of the Army Research Laboratory since its inception, and has been performing research, development, and technology transfer in the field of computer science for two decades; the past 14 years focused primarily on high-performance computing. He has numerous conference presentations and journal publications contributing to the literature on various aspects of parallel programming methodologies, performance optimization, and the use of object-oriented techniques to increase productivity in software development. His current research is focused on the use of hybrid binary computing platforms for fielded applications. He has received several awards including the Federal Executive Board Award for Outstanding Professional, two Army Research and Development Achievement Awards, and the 2004 Supercomputing HPC Software Challenge Award. He is also a coinventor on a visualization approach for monitoring and controlling composites manufacturing (US Patent #6577958). He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society and the ACM.
