His clinical and experimental focus is mainly on inflammatory airway-diseases. He is also M.D. and specialist for Otorhinolaryngology with (sub-)speciality in Allergology. He has board certification in otorhinolaryngology (ORL, 2004) and allergy (2007).

Oliver Pfaar is member of the Executive Committee of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) since 2017, and he has been the chair of the Immunotherapy Interest Group (IT IG) for many years. Besides, he is member of the board of Directors of the German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI).

During the annual congress 2024 of EAACI in Valencia, he has been elected as Vice President of the academy (per 03 June, 2024).

As an international expert in airway-diseases, he has been involved in more than 210 clinical trials in the field with many of those as global/country investigator and lead investigator at site. Besides, he acts as Associate Editor of Allergy, the scientific journal of the EAACI (IF=14.7).

Further, he has published almost 450 scientific articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and edited and authored multiple textbooks. He coordinated or has been involved in many international and national guidelines in allergy. His current H-Index is 71 with 16767 citations (SCOPUS Sept. 2024).

Pfaar has received multiple scientific awards such as the “Research Grant of the DGAKI” in 2019.
