Spyros Michaleas is a Postdoctoral Candidate in Medicine. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in History, a Master’s Degree (MA) in Modern Greek History with a GPA of 9.95/10 (summa cum laude) from the Department of History and Archeology, University of Ioannina and a PhD in Modern Greek History and History of Medicine. Recently, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Studies specializing in Curriculum and Instruction with a GPA of 10/10 (summa cum laude). He has given lectures on the History of Medicine in Greek Universities (undergraduate and postgraduate courses). Moreover, he gives lectures in the English-speaking department of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His studies have been published in numerous scientific journals and edited books, such as “The Encyclopedia of Ancient History”. He has been a scientific collaborator in the Wiley-Blackwell publications (Oxford) and the literary editor of the book «Revolutionary Action and Secret Societies in Modern Europe» (in Greek). His research has been presented at numerous conferences, workshops and summer schools. He has participated in the organization of scientific conferences, seminars and educational programs in Greece and abroad. He has been honoured with the «Spyros Doxiadis for the Adolescent» Award for his research in the History of Medicine. His research interests in medical ethics, medical humanities and history of medicine include health management structures, the study of urban and rural settlement, as well as, the disease spectrum in Greek refugees during the Interwar Period in Central Macedonia, for which he has digitized and is processing an electronic database of 200,000 refugees.
