Jon Molinero Ortiz

My research is focused on the ecology of tropical rivers and mangrove forests of the Ecuadorian Choco region. I study benthic macroinvertebrates to develop a biotic index for these rivers. I study carbon cycling in mangrove forests to evaluate their potential for carbon sequestration. I study the ecology of rivers impacted by illegal gold mining in the Santiago and Cayapas rivers. I study the presence of emergent organic pollutants and their impact on ecosystems and human health.
