1986 - Graduated cum laude; degree (Bachelor’s Degree) in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Bari (Italy). Experimental thesis, with Prof. G. Natile, on the synthesis of novel cisplatin compounds. 1988 – Graduated in Pharmacy. Additional degree in Pharmacy from the University of Bari (Italy). Experimental thesis, with Profs. Natile and Coluccia, on the platinum complex. 1988-89 - Military service as a lieutenant in the Italian Air Force 1989 – Menarini Research (Pomezia – Italy): as a researcher/head of laboratory: synthesis of novel distamycins, and total synthesis of fluorinated anthracyclines, as anticancer drugs. 1988–2012 – R&D Sigma-Tau S.p.A. (Pomezia – Italy): senior scientist/head of laboratory/project leader on various oncological projects, working on different biological target: HDAC, Hsp90, Heparanase, Topoisomerase, Retinoid, Integrin, etc. etc. Responsible also for the management of outside research activities in relation to these projects, as well as for their inside design, synthesis and development, with particular emphasis on bibliographic and patent research, as well as scaling-up synthesis. 2012-2017: Corporate R&D Sigma-Tau S.p.A. (Pomezia – Italy): Head of Medicinal Chemistry. 2017- to-date: Alfasigma S.p.A. (Pomezia – Italy): Head of Medicinal Chemistry / Biotech R&D In recent years I followed studies of characterization of macromoleculs such AvidinOX and antibodies, synthesis of conjugates (ADCs). Now I am also involved in study on intestinal microbiota, IBD, and post-biotic products. Co-inventor of more fifty patents, primarily dealing with novel antitumoral compounds. Author or co-author of about eighty scientific publications. Discussed in national and international scientific meeting about seventy oral communications and posters. Authored a review on fluorinated anthracyclines [Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2002], on HDAC inhibitors [Future Medicinal Chemistry - Targeted Oncology. 2012] and on Heparanase inhibitors [Future Medical Chemistry 2016]. I wrote two chapters of a books [Fluorinated Anthracyclines in Topic in Current Chemistry (Springer) – 2007] and [Camptothecin and analogues in Natural Products in Medicinal Chemistry (Wiley-VCH) - 2014]. My interest range from various areas of oncological medicinal chemistry and the study of natural products to the synthesis of semi-synthetic and/or synthetic compounds.
