Eckhard Lammert and his colleagues hypothesized in early 2000 that blood vessels and organs influence each other during their development, so that their properties are perfectly matched. For this reason, according to Lammert, there is an ongoing interrelationship and dependence between organs and blood vessels. Over the course of this decade, Lammert and his collaborators have put forward two new theses. One thesis explains why people develop type IIdiabetes while others are spared the disease. Another thesis advocated by Lammert and his colleagues suggests a molecular mechanism for how cells form blood vessels that are essential for supplying the human body with oxygen and nutrients.
