Bio
Dr. Battistini is a director and test facility management at the nonclinical CRO - Charles River Laboratories in Sherbrooke, and a senior consultant to many research projects for academic institutions and private sector enterprise. Before becoming New Brunswick's President, CEO and Scientific Director of the Provincial Health Research Foundation (NBHRF; 2012-2018), Bruno Battistini occupied senior positions in the private sector (CSO, VP, Senior Director), was a Health Research Scholar (FRQS) and Assistant-Professor (Medicine) at the Université Laval (1997-2006), and Scientist at the Hôpital Laval - Quebec Heart & Lung Institute (1997-2006), and still lectures at the Université de Sherbrooke and is an Adjunct-Professor at the University of Ottawa (2020-__). Dr. Battistini continues to serves on several provincial (as Chair of the CQDM-FACS-Research Oversight Committee, a program from MEI-gouv.qc of $100M over 4 years) and national advisory committees, peer-review committees, and boards.
Dr. Battistini holds a B.Sc. (Cell Physiology), M.Sc. and PhD (Pharmacology; 1992) from the Université de Sherbrooke, QC. As a Fellow, he conducted three post-doctoral trainings (1992-1997) at the William Harvey Research Institute - St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College - U of London - under Sir John R. Vane, Nobel Laureate, UK, then UBC-Vancouver and U de Sherbrooke. He has been awarded back in the days with many health research Studentships, Fellowships and Scholarships and was in receipt of several operating grants and venture capitals funds. He was the national Co-Chair of www.NAPHRO.ca and the Forum of Health Research (Canadian) Funders (2015-2017), and is the recipient of many national awards and honours.
His research focused in the cardiovascular, pulmonary and "diabesity" fields, with 128 co-authored cited publications (128 research works with 3109 citations and 1670 reads), a couple of patents, and over 350 various posters, oral, keynote presentations, particularly on the mechanisms of endothelins and other vasoactive mediators in hypertension, sepsis, asthma, alveolitis, diabetes, and more recently in managing major scientific and social health endeavours. When a Faculty, he has trained over 20 students. Over the past two years, he co-founded www.pulmonem.ca which is the private sector company engaged in the clinical trial of a treatment, not a vaccine, against COVID (www.dapcorona.com).
He continues (>2018) to actively participate or Lead oversight, evaluation and surveillance committees, as a consultant to foster the development of major proposals, new initiatives, strategic alliance, business development, & licensing agreements.
