Socas-Rodríguez Bárbara

Dr. Socas Rodríguez finished her Bachelor`s degree in Chemistry in 2011 (ULL). She obtained the Extraordinary Prize upon graduation and three Excellence Grants awarded by the Canary Islands Government. In 2011, she was beneficiary of a Collaboration Fellowship awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education that allowed her to carry out a research stay in the Department of Chemistry at the Université de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FUNDP) (Belgium). During her degree studies she obtained 2 JAE-Intro fellowships (2008 and 2010) at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In 2012, she finished a Master`s degree in Research in Chemistry (ULL). She carried out her PhD (2012-2017) in the international modality obtaining the Extraordinary Prize by the ULL. During this period, she realised two stays at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Prague (Czech Republic) and was awarded with several travel grants for the attendance to scientific symposiums and for the preparation of scientific papers. She has published 13 book chapters and 55 articles (JCR), including 12 research articles related to innovation in education, and has presented 144 communications in national and international conferences, obtaining several awards (7), participating as plenary and keynote speaker in several of them. Likewise, she is a usual reviewer of important journals in the fields of Analytical Chemistry and Food Sciences for the prestigious editorials Elsevier, Wiley, Royal Chemical Society, or MDPI. She is member of the Editorial Board of 7 different journals from the editorials De Gruyter, MPDI or Bentham Sciences and has also participated as Guess Editor of 6 special issues related to sustainable methodologies. She has been member of the organising committee of two international conferences (ITP2013 and SECyTA2013) and member of the advisory committee of the regional conference XV CESQ 2019. After finishing her PhD, she worked as a technician at the Agroalimentary Techniques Service (SEGAI, ULL) (2017-2018) using the state-of-the art of chromatography and detection techniques and under the framework of a contract linked with transference and technological actions. From April 2018 until March 2019, she worked as a temporary lecturer at the Department of Chemistry (ULL). She has supervised 7 Final Degree projects, 6 Final Master Degree Projects and has been the tutor of external practices of 4 bachelor students and 2 Master students. In addition, she is currently co-supervising 2 PhD theses, which are closely related to the development of this project. She got a postdoctoral research position at the GTG in Lund University (Sweden) supported by a fellow funding by Carl Trygger Foundation (2019-2020). During this period, she obtained two travel grants and additional financial support for the development or research activities sponsored by the The Royal Physiographic Society of Lund and Lund University. In May 2020 she joined to the Foodomics Group (CIAL-CSIC) as a postdoctoral researcher. Since October 2021 she is working as Assistant Professor at the ULL. Her research activity has been focused on the determination of organic contaminants in agro-food and environmental matrices applying sustainable methodologies. During her postdoctoral studies she extended her knowledge to the use of supercritical fluids and biological samples, as well as the safety evaluation of valorised food by-products and the study of bioactivity in NADESs extracts. In the last years she has also participated as expert reviewer of research projects of national (DEVA-ACC and ACCUEE) and international institutions (FONDECY-CONCYTEC, Czech Academy of Sciences, “National Science Centre” in Poland). Apart from that she has also participate in several informational activities with the aim of making research actions closer to the general population (e.g. Science Beach program” (youtube))
