António Onofre Soares is a Biologist graduated in the University of Coimbra and he has a PhD in Biology with a specialization on Ecology. Presently is Auxiliar Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of the Azores, and responsible for several disciplines at the under-graduate and graduate levels including Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. António Onofre Soares is currently coordinator of the Master program on Biodiversity and Biotechnology in which he also teaches. He has coordinated and participates in several research projects and also supervises research plans at the Master, PhD and Post-Doctoral levels. His research focusing primarily on the study of biology, ecology and biodiversity of arthropods manly biological control agents used in integrated pest management. He has extensively worked on ladybird beetles as a model species; i) to search for the best conditions for mass rearing, ii) to find how vulnerable are the species to biotic interactions, iii) to study the impact of lethal and sub-lethal effect of pesticides. He is now exploring new ideas in life-history evolution in ladybird beetles predator species and related it to habitat usage; dynamics of colonization and invasion in an islands context; plant and arthropod bio-indicator species as an ecological tool to discriminate disturbances in a gradient of anthropogenic impacted ecosystems and its implications for conservation.
