Timothy J. Ziemlewicz received the Medical Degree (M.D.) from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA, in 2004, the Radiology Residency from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, USA, in 2009, and the Abdominal Radiology Fellowship from Duke University, Durham, NC, USA, in 2010. In 2010, he joined the Department of Radiology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI, USA, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He is a Radiologist specialized in interventional oncology His current major focuses of research include the translational development of histotripsy, evaluation of clinical efficacy and safety of microwave ablation (MWA), new applications for monitoring tumor ablation, and image postprocessing techniques for disease evaluation and surgical/procedure planning. He has received federal and industry support for his translational research in the tumor ablation field. This includes being PI for a good laboratory practice (GLP)-compliant swine study comparing MWA and histotripsy, which supported a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) exemption to begin a human trial in the USA and serving as an industry consultant for the initial human trial of hepatic histotripsy performed in Barcelona, Spain. He is currently serving as the Co-PI for the first U.S. phase 1 trial of hepatic histotripsy. Mr. Ziemlewicz was an Associate Editor for the journal Abdominal Radiology. He is currently on the Editorial Board for International Journal of Hyperthermia.
