Design and modeling of integrated micro- and nanophotonic devices using silicon, polymer or plasmonics for passive/active optical and electrical components, such as ring resonators, MZI modulators, phase delay, antennas, thermo-optic (TO) switches, WDM/TDM, RF wave sensors, patch antenna array (PAA), etc.
Nano-fabrication experience in the clean room (4 years): photo/e-beam lithography, RIE, ICP, DSE, e-beam evaporation, PECVD, CVD, PVD, sputtering, metal electroplating, furnace, ion implantation, rapid thermal anneal, wire bonding, dicing saw, ink-jet printing, SEM, AFM, profilometer, ellipsometer, etc.
Optical devices testing (10 years): edge/grating coupling aligner, tunable laser, broadband ASE, femtosecond pulse laser, fiber polarization controller, EDFA, modulator, tunable filter, power meter, high-speed photodetector, optical attenuator, OSA, CCD, etc.
Electrical and high-speed RF testing (4 years): VNA, Parbert, logic analyzer, digital communication analyzer, eye diagram, RF source generator, microprobe, microwave spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, RF amplifier, RF phase shifter, Bias tee, power supply, multimeter, pico-ammeter, function generator, horn antenna, PAA, etc.
Software development (10 years): automatically test and characterize the device performance using python, C/C++, MATLAB, or LabVIEW via GPIB, RS232, USB, ethernet, etc. Computational electromagnetics using time/frequency domain analysis and publish software (bit.do/fdtd). Statistical and data analysis using python, jupyter, pandas, numpy, scipy, matplotlib, and MATLAB. Machine learning and deep learning to predict using scikit-learn and tensorflow. Solve the optimized solution using gradient descent, genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, etc.
Software: Lumerical, RSoft, Ansys HFSS, COMSOL, FIMMWAVE, FIMMPROP, Cadence Virtuoso, Tanner L-EDIT, blender, CAD, Rhinoceros, LinkCAD.
