The ultimate goal of Dr. Duan’s research is to enhance the basic and translational research of stem cells and to promote bench work to clinics. Dr. Duan’s major pieces of research include the committed differentiation of the stem cells, the role of the stem cells in tissue repair and the replacing functions during an injury of the tissues and organs, and the applications of stem cell-derived functional cells in pharmaceutical industry and clinics. Dr. Duan also has investigated the origins and how cancer stem cells (CSC) transform, the roles of CSC during tumor initiation, development, metastasis and occurrence, as well as the development of the specific targeting on CSC for future cancer therapies.
Currently Dr. Duan has taken charge of one project from the National Key Research and Development Program on the Research of Stem Cells and Translation, published more than 60 articles in Gastroenterology, Stem Cells, Stem Cells Translational Medicine, Liver International, etc; and Dr. Duan also served as the editor, Editorial Board member, and reviewer for over SCI 20 journals.
