Yewchung Sermon Wu was born in Taichung, Taiwan. He received the B.S. degree in materials science and engineering from Tsinghua University, and the Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering and electrical engineering from Stanford University, in 1998. His Ph.D. dissertation was on wafer bonding process for optoelectronic devices. After his graduation, he joined Cypress Semi conductor, San Jose, CA, USA. In 1999, he joined the Faculty of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NCTU), where he is currently a Professor with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. His research efforts are mainly along the three directions are wafer bonding for optoelectronic devices, including bonding mechanism, high brightness LEDs, photonic crystal, and 3D IC; growth of GaN on patterned sapphire substrate; and LTPS TFTs by metal induced lateral crystallization of amorphous Si.
