I conduct transdisciplinary research on social disparities in health and aging that crosscuts a range of areas in demography, medical sociology, life course epidemiology, and quantitative methodology. My overarching goal is to discover complex patterns and mechanisms producing population heterogeneity in health and mortality and their temporal dynamics and life course variations. My general approaches are to: 1) integrate sociodemographic and biological theories and data; 2) develop new statistical models and methods for integrative data analysis of aging related health change across the full spectrum of the life course; and 3) to construct a multisystem explanatory framework across levels of organization (cellular, organ, organism, developmental, and behavioral) for identifying mechanisms at the most precise level of pathogenesis that are jointly affected by social and biological processes.
