章翔教授应用现代微球技术和分子生物学与免疫病理技术,系统研究了基底神经节区急性受压不同时期脑细胞和神经轴索变化,揭示了脑组织病理学改变与脑水肿的关系,证实了脑受压6小时内主要为血管源性脑水肿和点状出血;随着时间的延长而出现神经组织变性、坏死、液化及空洞形成。ICP于脑受压当时呈显著高峰值,间隙期为低阈值,且基线不稳,调幅差,并随压力波传播而变动。证实对脑深部急性占位病变的处理,手术宜在发病后6小时内进行。在创伤性急性胃肠出血机理研究攻关中,首次采用神经电生理和显微解剖技术,研究脑损伤对胃肠交感神经兴奋性的影响,为防治重型颅脑损伤并发急性消化道出血提供了重要理论依据。在国内率先开展了对生长于左、右大脑半球、额部与枕区、幕上或幕下等不同部位的巨大、多发性脑膜瘤的手术技术研究,提出并开展了“一刀切多瘤”手术技术,并先后为105例患者成功实施了该种创新性手术。在重型颅脑损伤基础与临床救治的研究方面取得了重要成果,应用细胞工程和基因工程技术,揭示了细胞内钙通道的变化及其与脑水肿发生的关系,用以指导临床病例救治,使颅脑损伤的抢救成功率明显提高。
