个人简介
Xavier Companyó was born and raised in Barcelona. He gained his undergraduated and MSc degrees in Chemistry in 2007 and 2009 respectively from the University of Barcelona. Subsequently, through the support of a FPU fellowship, he started his doctoral studies under the supervision of Prof. Moyano and Dr. Ramon Rios. During his PhD, Xavier carried out a six-month visiting researcher period in the group of Prof. Karl Anker Jørgensen at the Center for Catalysis at Aarhus University (Denmark). His doctoral studies were focused on the development different synthetic methodologies by means of asymmetric organocatalysis, including aldol and Michael additions, asymmetric allylic alkylations as well as one-pot and cascade transformations. In March 2014, Xavier received his PhD title from the University of Barcelona with the maximum grade of “Excellent cum laude”. As a result, he was awarded with the “Premi Extraordinari de Doctorat 2013/2014” (outstanding doctorate prize 2013/2014).
In April 2014, Xavier joined the group of Prof. Alan Armstrong and Dr Jordi Burés at Imperial College London (United Kingdom) through the award of a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship. During his postdoctoral period at Imperial College, Xavier studied diverse reaction mechanism of fundamental aminocatalytic systems, including enamine an iminium-ion catalysis, in order to design new catalytic methodologies from a rational perspective. Subsequently, in November 2016, he moved to the Department of Chemical Sciences at University of Padova (Italy) where he was awarded with a Supporting TAlent in ReSearch-Starting Grant (STARS-StG) to establish his independent research. In Padova, Xavier developed diverse photochemical methodologies based on the direct irradiation of carbonyl groups under microfluidic conditions.
In autumn 2020, Xavier joined the Section of Organic Chemistry at the University of Barcelona as Lecturer. His research is currently focused on the development of sustainable synthetic methodologies using a knowledge-driven approach, with particular interest in photochemical and electrochemical transformations as well as in the catalytic activation of CO2 for its utilisation in synthesis. In summary, his research interest spans from the better understanding of catalytic reaction mechanisms to the development of new and efficient catalytic processes and their application in asymmetric synthesis.
