David’s research focuses on practices of knowledge production including big data, everyday action and the sociology of expertise. His PhD examined, ethnographically, the role, training and grassroots level practices of the Crime Scene Investigator.
His work at King's has focused on the implementation of the Athena SWAN Charter and sociological questions surrounding the use and potential of big data in health contexts.
David has a broad interest in queer and gender studies and methodological innovation in qualitative research. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and lectures on the Masters in Public Health, undergraduate medical education programme, translational research summer school and the King’s College London/NIHR Guy's and St Thomas' Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) post-graduate Qualitative Research Methods course. He is co-academic lead for the Master in Public Health module, Social Research Methods for Public Health, and coordinates the ESRC KISS-DTC Summer School, Doing Social Science Research in Healthcare Settings.
