Wayne B. Dyer

Dr Wayne Dyer is a biomedical researcher in resuscitation strategies for haemorrhagic shock, and fractionated plasma products for haemorrhage and haemostasis. Dr Dyer was awarded a PhD in 1999 in viral immunology, investigating the immunological basis of HIV non-progression and antiretroviral treatment-assisted immune reconstitution. Dr Dyer managed a QAP for PBMC cryopreservation for an Australian network of immunovirology laboratories engaged in HIV/HCV research, and curates a biorepository of HIV patient specimens and consults on study design for immunovirological research of this resource. He developed a flow cytometry panel for immune-profiling treatment efficacy of immunoglobulin therapy for autoimmune peripheral neuropathy. Current research in critical care, anaesthesia and Patient Blood Management focusses on optimal use of fluids and fractionated plasma products for haemorrhage and coagulopathy. Dr Dyer developed a sheep model of haemorrhagic shock using invasive measures of organ-specific microvascular flow, oxygen delivery and oxygen debt, to assess efficacy of novel treatment strategies to enhance tissue oxygen delivery. These animal studies are generating evidence to support use of patient-relevant measures to inform Patient Blood Management to deliver improved treatment outcomes.
