Dr. Walid El-Rodeny is a Head of Research, Group leader of food legumes Dept in the Food Legumes Department of the Field Crop Research Institute, Sakha Agricultural Research Station (FCRI), where I lead a faba bean genetics and pre-breeding programme supporting the wider work of FCRI-SARS as the main national breeder of food legume varieties, during this program our team releasing so many faba bean varieties for Orobanche resistant & early maturity (Sakha 1, Sakha 3, Sakha 4 & Misr 3), I have extensive international research experience in Japan, India and Hungary (Szeged) and UK (Reading) and during the time in Japan we developed a large panel of SSR markers and an important genetic linkage map . Specifically relevant to this proposal was awarded a Newton-Mosharafa Researcher Links Travel Grant for a six-month sabbatical (Oct 2015 - March 2016) hosted in the O’Sullivan lab at University of Reading. During this sabbatical, three mutant faba bean lines carrying putative resistance to the ALS inhibitor, amidosulfuron, were identified and crosses between sources of low vicine-convicine and elite Egyptian breeding lines were initiated, innovations on which WPs 3 and 4 are based. In 2018, we submitted a new patent W244 Gene Identification in Faba Bean – to Synteny and Beyond.
