Viktoria Wichert

Viktoria Wichert is a post-graduate researcher at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon in Geesthacht, Germany. Her area of expertise is Applied Mathematics, especially data science, data vizualization, parallel computing and algorithm design. She is part of the Digital Earth project that won the Digital Leader Award in 2020. Viktoria did her Bachelor's and Master's in Mathematics at the Ruhr-University in Bochum, Germany, specializing in Applied Mathematics and Physics. To focus more on applications of Mathematics in Physics, she did her PhD at the Hamburg Observatory on "Numerical Radiation Transport Algorithms for Emergent Computer Architectures" in a group developing highly parallel algorithms for modelling stellar atmospheres. Since the beginning of 2019, Viktoria works as a post-graduate researcher in the "Global Coast" group at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon focussing on data science for the Earth Sciences. Through the Digital Earth project, she is collaborating with data scientists and researchers from different Earth system disciplines to develop innovative analysis workflows for a more holistic view on the complex Earth system.
