Valerio Beni received his Degree in Chemistry from the ”Universita’ degli Studi di Firenze” in 1999. Following a short experience as environmental consultant he moved to Ireland where he obtained, in 2005, his Ph.D. from the University College Cork (UCC). During his Ph.D. studies he specialised in the design and application of micro-fabricated electrode arrays for the detection of heavy metals in environmental samples and investigated the use of electrochemistry at the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions (ITIES) for the detection of molecules of clinical and environmental relevance. Following-up with his Ph.D. he worked, as Postdoctoral Researcher, at the Tyndall National Institute, Cork, Ireland where he was involved in the design, fabrication and evaluation of a multi-parameters electrochemical sensors. In 2007 he joined the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, Spain as a Marie Curie fellow (EIF followed by an ERG) to work on electrochemical DNA sensors and on electrochemical melting curve analysis. In September 2011 he moved to the Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden where he worked as Lektor in the ”Biosensors and Bioelectronics Centre” until September 2015. Currently he is a Senior Research Scientist at ACREO Swedish ICT AB.
