Torill Hamre

Hamre is a research leader at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center, heading the Scientific Data Management Group. Her expertise is in FAIR data management and spatial data infrastructures for environmental data. Her research interests focus on standard metadata and data formats, development of data catalogues, data portals, and services for analysis and visualisation of geographic data. From 2012, Hamre has led the establishment of a NERSC Data Node serving data into national data infrastructures Norwegian Marine Data Centre (NMDC) and Norwegian Scientific Data Network (NorDataNet), as well as the international infrastructure Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing System (SIOS). She is member of the SIOS Data Management System working group. Since 2016, Hamre has been co-lead of the work-package for data management and integration and Theme Leader for data management in the Integrated Arctic Observation System (INTAROS) project. In INTAROS, she had the overall responsibility for the INTAROS data catalogue and iAOS portal, providing access to data generated in the project. Teaching Together with partners METNO and NILU in NorDataNET, Hamre has co-organised the course “An Introduction to FAIR Data Management For Geoscientists” as part of the Changing Climates in the coupled Earth System (CHESS) research school. During these courses (2020,2021), Hamre lectured on documentation of data and exploitation of scientific data through standard interfaces, and led workshops on using standard interfaces to access data from different data centres. Within the Useful Arctic Knowledge research schools, organised by H. Sagen, NERSC, Hamre lectured on FAIR data management for young scientists and led sessions on preparing collected data for submission to Norwegian data infrastructures for marine data (NMDC). Hamre contributes to supervision of bachelor and master students in computer science and ocean sciences.
