Working closely together with experimenters. We combine analytical models with simulations to study collective dynamics in out-of-equilibrium systems, ranging from the nanoscale of proteins to the macroscale of populations. Bottom-up approach: understanding the relevant processes in living systems by starting with their basic properties and subsequently increasing complexity.
Courses range from introductory physics to the cutting edge of current research, including classical mechanics, special relativity, quantum mechanics, soft matter, differential geometry, and genetic engineering. Proponent of open eductation, including the writing and adaptation of open texbooks. Specialties: analytical modeling, phenomenological descriptions, inter-disciplinary collaborations.
