My main research interests are reproducible science and the evaluation of information access systems. Reproducibility is one cornerstone of scientific progress and trustworthiness. From a reactive point of view, I work on solutions to quantify reproducibility by analyzing the quality of reimplementations in comparison to the original experiment. On the other hand, reproducibility can be proactively ensured, and I am an advocate of logging metadata and making the data provenance of computational experiments more transparent. Furthermore, I believe that user simulations are the solution to bridge the gap between system- and user-oriented evaluations and to better understand the generalizability of experimental outcomes. I obtained my Ph.D. at the University of Duisburg-Essen and was supervised by Prof. Norbert Fuhr and Prof. Philipp Schaer. During my Ph.D., I developed a living lab infrastructure to conduct interactive information retrieval experiments with technically reproducible information access systems.
