Tim Wilhelm Nattkemper studied mathematics, physical chemistry and computer science. He graduated in neural networks and computer vision. After post-graduate works in visualizing state spaces of macroeconomic models, he received a scholarship of the Graduate School "Structure Formation Phenomena" at the Bielefeld University and received a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2001. In 2002 he founded the new group "Biodata Mining & Applied Neuroinformatics" at the Faculty of Technology and the Center of Biotechnology (CeBiTec). In his research TW Nattkemper develops new approaches for analysing biodata with a special focus on image data, such as microscopy images (dark field or multivariate fluorescence), magnetic resonance images or underwater images. The group proposed several systems for automatic object detection/segmentation and semantic annotation of complex structures in images and developed approaches for visual data mining in high dimensional image data. In recent years, the group focusses on web 2.0 - frameworks for bioimage data analysis, as well.
