Dr. Laguna has built her research career in early lung disease in cystic fibrosis (CF). Her NIH R01 and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) grant-funded work focuses on early infections in the CF airway and the role of anaerobic communities in the development of lung disease. She is a national mentor for the CFF and serves on NIH and CFF grant review study sections. She has been recognized for her teaching efforts as an Outstanding Faculty Educator by pediatric residents five times. She is active in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives locally, regionally, and nationally. Dr. Laguna has been active in many professional societies including the American Thoracic Society where she has served as Co-Chair of the DEI Advisory Group, Chair of the Program Committee and will be the incoming Chair of the Pediatrics Assembly.
