Welcome to the “Materials & Interface Engineering” laboratory. Our research is on the development and studies of materials for energy applications, which include renewable energy harvesting, catalysis, and energy storage. Our materials engineering approach resides in the engineering of different mesoscopic interfaces and probing their interesting interface related properties. We study properties such as light-matter interactions, electrode-electrolyte interface phenomena, electron/ion transport through interfaces, and quasiparticle dynamics. We develop novel atomic layers and their heterostructures using chemical vapour deposition techniques and other chemical and mechanical transfer techniques. Light as a probing tool for materials’ topological properties is another active area of our research. We also work on problems related to environmental & water purification and novel equipment for personal protection, and we do have close association with different industries and institutions on these aspects of our research. We closely work in collaboration with faculty members within TIFR and also other renowned institutes within India and abroad.
