Thamil Selvi Velayutham

Dr Thamil Selvi Velayutham completed her PhD in 2010 from the University of Malaya After her three years of post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Malaya, she joined the Department of Physics, Universiti Malaya as a Senior Lecturer. She has been promoted to Associate Professor in July 2022. She is a material physicist, and her research interests are in materials such as polymers, ceramics and polymer/ceramics composites that exhibit functional properties such as ferro-, pyro- and piezoelectricity. She also focuses on soft matter research using closely integrated experiments and theory to study the phase behaviour, structure and statistical physics of soft matter She is teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate level students. She has supervised postgraduate students in research mode, including 4 PhDs and 6 Masters students, 5 of whom 2 PhD and 3 MSc students) have completed their studies. Over the years, she has obtained internal and external grants of over RM 4 million and the most prestigious research funding was obtained through the Ministry of Higher Education's Fundamental Research Grant 2018 2021 and MOSTI fund It has always been a priority of her to broaden her knowledge and skills and to form strong collaborations with her colleagues within the same department, and together she has successfully accomplished the grant objectives She has active collaboration with local (Xiamen University Malaysia) and international researchers (University of Aberdeen, Scotland, Tokyo University of Science, Japan and Nevada University, USA and Auckland University, New Zealand). From these collaborations, she has managed to publish many Tier 1 publications. She has authored and co-authored over 40  articles published in respected journals with an H index of 13 and over 500 citations.
