Maria Giovanna Tanda (Benetutti (SS), 1956) graduated in Civil Engineering (Hydraulics) at the Politecnico di Milano (1979), Hydraulics Associate professor (1992), Winner of competition as Full professor in Hydraulic Structures (2000), Full professor in the Parma University, Engineering Faculty on 2001, confirmed as Full professor on 2004 in the Engineering Faculty of the Parma University.
Full Professor of Hydraulic Structures in the Faculty of Civil Engineering from November 2001; also Lecturer of Hydraulics for Environmental Engineering (since 2002) and Groundwater Hydrology for civil and Environmental Engineering (since 2004). Before she has teaching activity (as Associate Professor) of Hydraulics and Fluid Mechanics in the Politecnico di Milano from 1990 up to 2001; she taught classes of Groundwater Hydrology at the Politecnico di Milano from 1994 up to 2002.
She was Principal Investigator of the Research Group of the Politecnico di Milano in the European Consortium INCORE (Integrated concept for groundwater remediation) in the years 2001-03 (amount of the local funding Euro 207.676); nations participating in INCORE are Germany, France, Austria and Poland .
She was Principal Investigator of the Research Group of the University of Parma of the Project
Direct and Inverse Mathematical Models of the contaminant transport in groundwater (years 2002 - 2004) and Numerical and experimental study of the transport of toxic and/or radioactive contaminants in porous and fractured media (years 2004-2006) financed by the Italian Ministry of Research and Education.
Member of America Geophysical Union (AGU), International Association of Hydraulic Research (IAHR), Gruppo Italiano Idraulica (GII), Associazione Georisorse e Ambiente (GEAM-Groundwater section). She has been reviewer for the international journals: Transport in Porous Media, Journal of Hydrology, Water Resources Research.
Author or co-author of about 100 scientific and teaching papers.
She works as a consultant in the areas of
Mathematical modeling of groundwater: flow and transport problems, Forensic consulting about water and flooding problems, Water distribution system analysis, Sewer systems, Hydrologic modeling of rural and town watershed, Flood routing in rivers. Mathematical modeling of flood routing in lakes and storage systems.
