Sylvia Wilson is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC. Following medical school (University of Florida), she completed her anesthesia residency at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh. Since joining MUSC, she has served as regional anesthesia division chief, fellowship director, and medical director of ambulatory surgery. Her research interests include optimization of regional anesthetic techniques and non-opioid analgesics, and she serves the Endowed Chair for Research in the MUSC Department of Anesthesia. She is also committed to anesthesia education and volunteers as both an applied examiner and question writer with the American Board of Anesthesiology.
