Susana Reyes

Susana Reyes received the M.Sc. degree in power engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain, in 1998 and the Ph.D. degree in nuclear engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Madrid, in 2001. She is a Nuclear Engineer with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Livermore, CA, with more than ten years of experience in international projects. She is currently with the National Ignition Facility (NIF) and Photon Science Directorate, leading the safety and licensing activities for the Laser Inertial Fusion Energy project devoted to the development of fusion energy for peaceful purposes. From October 2006 to January 2010, she took a leave of absence from LLNL in order to join the ITER Organization, Cadarache, France, where she performed safety analyses in preparation for the ITER magnetic-fusion-energy facility licensing as a member of the organization's Nuclear Safety and Environment Division. Before joining ITER, she worked within LLNL's Fusion Energy Program, leading the analysis of the safety and environmental aspects of inertial fusion energy and being responsible for LLNL's involvement in the U.S. ITER Test Blanket Module program. She was also largely involved in neutronics and materials damage simulations in support of high energy accelerators and of NIF (laser inertial confinement facility in LLNL). Her current interests are focused on the safety and environmental aspects of future fusion-energy power plants.
