My main interest is the study of the physiological adjustments and morpho-functional constraints that explain the abilities/limitations of the response of photosynthetic organisms to the environment, and how these inherent traits can contribute to regulate carbon fluxes in coral reef ecosystems. A key aspect is the understanding of the metabolic coupling, and uncoupling under stress, between organic carbon fixation (photosynthesis) and calcium carbonate biomineralization (calcification).
