His research fields are wildfire trends and impacts, carbon dynamics, soil hydrology, water repellency and geomorphology, and karst processes. He has investigated the environmental impacts of wildfires in Europe, Australia (including the catastrophic ‘Black Saturday’ fires of 2009), and North America, which focused on the relationships between fire severity, fire frequency, carbon dymanics and post-fire responses of burned terrain.
