Soren Prestemon

Soren Prestemon (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Diplome d’Etudes Approfondie (M.Sc.) degree from the Institut National Polytechnique, Grenoble, France, in 1993, and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, USA, in 2001. In 2001, he joined the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, CA, USA, where he is currently the Deputy Division Director of the Technology with Accelerator Technology and Applied Physics Division and also the Director of the Berkeley Center for Magnet Technology and the U.S. Magnet Development Program and the Group Leader of the Superconducting Magnets and Cryogenics, Engineering Division. His research interests include superconducting magnets for high-energy physics accelerator applications, X-ray light-source applications, nuclear physics, and fusion energy research. He is developing strategies and initiatives associated with accelerator technologies and applied physics, in particular, related to magnet technologies. Dr. Prestemon was elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2021.
