Sophia Shuang Chen

SS CHEN is a professor of urban ecology and environmental planning in Key Laboratory of Watershed Geographic Sciences at Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology of CAS. She got Ph.D. at University of Hong Kong in 2002. She directs Master and Ph.D. Programs of human geography at Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Chen’s research interests are in geography and urban ecology. Her research focuses on dynamics of urban expansion in developing countries, interactions between urban development patterns and ecosystem function, and nature based solutions for urban development. She leads research on ecological impacts assessment of urban growth in the Yangtze River Delta of China, and in the East African cities.
