Pisarri Simonetta

Simonetta Pisarri is a permanent professor of clinical immunology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and head of the Immunology Laboratories at the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University Hospital. She received the M.D. from Rome University in 1968 where she specialized in hematology and in internal medicine. In 1971 she became an assistant professor at the same university. In 1973–1974 she was a research fellow at the Wenner-Gren Institute of the Stockolm University, where she was involved in the development of the recently discovered antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC). After returning to Italy, she directed her research to clinical problems, obtaining original results in the application of the ADCC model in hematological and autoimmune diseases. Since 1980, as a professor she was involved in the clinical and laboratory management of connective tissue diseases patients, with particular reference to new diagnostic and therapeutic tools for Raynaud's phenomenon and systemic sclerosis.
