I realized my motivation to advance my knowledge in Microbiology during my studies to become a Medical Doctor. Consequently, I chose to follow a path focused on the biomedical laboratory research of infectious diseases instead of a more patient-centered career as a medical doctor, since I do believe that the research in the pathogenesis and treatment of infectious diseases, and their chronic sequelae, must be pursued and is of the utmost importance for improving human living conditions.
