个人简介
I am dedicated to strengthening diversity and health initiatives that advance women and those underrepresented in medicine. I am an Assistant Professor in the department of Neurology with specialization in comprehensive epilepsy management with focus on women’s health and treatment with epilepsy surgery. My enthusiasm for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is illustrated through local and national efforts. I have participated in the American Women Medical Association gender task force, University of Minnesota Center for Women in Medicine and Science (CWIMS) lead for salary, resource, equity, and leadership group for UMN medical school, UMN DEI concil, and neurology DEI committee member. These efforts have helped me better understand the complex matrix of power and privilege in medicine and build on strategic efforts to mobilize change in DEI work. I further expanded my DEI efforts with numerous research projects (pending publication): impact of covid on working parent neurologist, frontline worker wellbeing and resiliency during covid, focus group on barriers to promotion of female professors, and impact of covid on academic medicine productivity and telehealth. Additionally, in the past three years I have led the Women in Neurology Collaborative (WiNC) platform as the principal investigator, a multicenter survey with 19 academic neurology centers and 470 participations and over 35 volunteer advocates dedicated to diversity initiatives in neurology. This initiative is an integrated platform with early/mid/senior neurology faculty and experts that extends itself to multi-level engagement. Prior to this, my advocacy work focused on creating accountability, I helped organized the “Ignite Change '' conference with CWIMS on creating a safe and equitable workforce free of sexual harassment, with Dr. Ester Choo from Times Up Health care. This conference had over 400 attendees and encouraged dialogue amongst executive leadership at MHealth. My enthusiasm and passion for gender equity work was honored with the 2020 CWIMS Leadership Award for Advancing Gender Equity and Inclusion in Medicine, honorable mention for national “She for She” award, and 2022 nomination for the esteemed AAMC GWIMS steering group participation. My personal desire to change existing social injustice that impact women and those underrepresented in medicine energize this personal and professional journey. I hope this passion will be further developed as we create expand upon DEI efforts within the UMN medical college community at the institutional and national level.
