Silvy Lachance

Sylvie Lachance MD, FRCPC Director Hematology, Transplant and cellular therapy Program Professor of Medicine Université de Montréal Hematologist Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Montréal, Québec, Canada Dr Sylvie Lachance completed a Fellowship in Hematology at Université de Montréal in 1992. She received the Samuel H. McLaughlin Foundation Grant to pursue a Fellowship in Stem Cell Transplantation in Paris at Henri-Mondor University hospital. In Paris she worked in the transplant unit of Professor Jean-Paul Vernant and in the immunology laboratory of Professor Jean-Pierre Farcet. Her research project focused on Graft-versus-Host and Graft-versus-Leukemia reaction, developing functional assays looking at Cytotoxic and Helper T-cell precursors as predictors of GVH and GVL reaction. She returned to Canada in 1995 and joined the Department of Medicine of the University of Sherbrooke, and established its first Stem Cell Transplant Unit. In 1997 she became Associate Professor at McGill University and joined the Hematology and Oncology Division of The Montreal General Hospital as a transplant physician. She joined the Stem Cell Transplant team of Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital (HMR) in June 2006 to become the director of the Fellowship Program In Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation at Université de Montréal. From 2008 to 2021, she was the medical director of the Stem Cell transplant program of HMR a leading team in allogeneic HSCT in Canada. From June 2012 to 2014, she was the President of the Canadian Blood and Marrow Transplant group. She is Professor of Medicine and the director of the Haematology, Transplant and cellular therapy Program at Université de Montréal since 2015. Dr Lachance was involved in Genome Canada Personalised Cancer Immunotherapy Research Project, as a leader of project 1, looking at gene expression profile of Stem Cell donors to predict GVHD in their recipient and co-PI in the study of Expansion of Human Cord Blood Hematopoietic Stem Cells with UM171. Dr Lachance research has led to the authorship and co-authorship of more then 50 publications and more then 125 abstracts in peer-reviewed journals.
