Fibrosis is a detrimental factor for various diseases in different organs. It is important to understand why people develop diseases like fibrosis or atherosclerosis and identify treatments. Recent studies have demonstrated the importance of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels in mediating calcium signals. One focus of my research is to understand the inflammatory mechanism by investigating the role of TRPV4-mediated Ca2+ signaling in the pathogenic cascade. Unravelling mechanosensing role and downstream mechanisms of TRPV4 action in inflammatory diseases will provide a basis for designing biomaterials to aid wound healing and to target TRPV4 therapeutically.
