My general interests are in DNA repair, cancer biology and neurodegeneration. My research topic is on the regulation of the activity of TDP1, a DNA repair protein whose deficiency is implicated in the hereditary neurodegenerative disorder Spinocerebellar Axonal Neuropathy 1 (SCAN1). TDP1 expression is also altered in some breast and lung cancer cells. Understanding of how TDP1 expression / activity is regulated may provide insight into the pathophysiology of these diseases.
