My PhD work with B. Brett Finlay involved using DNA barcoding to study infection ecology within the GI tract, including how pathogenic E. coli sense and respond to regional gut barriers and signals. After this I worked with Agatha Jassem at BC CDC to explore cross-reactive immunity to endemic coronaviruses and SARS-CoV-2. Further active collaborations investigate the role of microbes in childhood malnutrition, asthma and cancer metastasis. I am now excited to begin a postdoc with Emma Slack.
