Ferrer-Bazaga Santiago

Degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona in 1990, I got my Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Faculty of Pharmacy in 1995. In 1996 I joined the pharmaceutical company GlaxoWellcome as manager of the biosafety level 3 in vivo research facilities of the R&D Centre located in Tres Cantos (Madrid), including responsibilities on animal models development and therapeutic efficacy studies for fungal and bacterial infections. After the merger of the companies GlaxoWellcome and SmithKline Beecham, which resulted in GlaxoSmithKline, in 2002 went to the position of Head of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics Unit supporting the development of new drugs for the treatment of malaria, tuberculosis and diseases caused by kinetoplastids. Areas of scientific activity have covered determination of in vivo efficacy of antimicrobial drugs, biosafety facilities management, determination of pre-clinical ADME and Pharmacokinetic properties of experimental drugs, with special focus on PKPD, modelling approaches and translational research, especially in the areas of malaria and tuberculosis. The developed research work has allowed me to participate as co-author in more than 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals.
