Sandra Rodriguez-Perales

* I received my PhD from CNIO-UCM in Madrid in 2004 and subsequently worked as a Post- Doctoral Fullbright Fellow at the MRC-LMB, Cambridge (UK), from 2005-2007. I have been a Senior Researcher at CNIO since 2008 and became the Head of the Molecular Cytogenetics & Genome Engineering Unit at the Spanish National Cancer Centre (CNIO) in 2017. * My research interests in cytogenetics and gene editing have contributed significantly to the field, including: 1.- generation of cellular and animal models that recapitulate and study cancer-related chromosomal aberrations (Torres R et al. Nat Commun 2014; Stem Cell Rep 2017. Senior author both) 2.- identification of novel therapeutic targets and develop novel CRISPR-based cancer therapy options (Nat Commun. 2020. Senior author) 3.- increment of our knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of cancer (epi)cyto-genetic alterations (over 80 articles published in top international journals: Nat Commun, Gut, J Clin Invest, Cell Metab, EMBO Mol Med, Nat Cancer, NAR or Blood). I have delivered numerous conferences at national and international meetings. * I am working on projects with an innovative edge, trying to develop and valorized translational products. 3 patent fillings (EP18382746.8; EP21382876.7; and P200401894) * In 2021, my group was awarded the Molecular Cloud Infinite Possibilities Teams Award for Genome Editing, and one of our publications received the 1st prize in the "Paper of the Year 2020-2021" contest in gene therapy by the SETGyC. I have been the recipient of a Caixa Impulse prize for our development of new therapy options targeting cancer chromosomal translocations in 2018. I am currently enrolled in an “Instituto Empresa” Master: IE Accelerate: From Tech to Business. I am a member of the Director Board of the SETGyC. I obtained Human Genetics Accreditation (AEGH, 2010), and “Mencion de Biólogo Sanitario” (COBCM, 2022). I have combined my research with cancer genetic diagnosis duties in collaboration with 5 National Health System Hospitals. * I am a teacher in 5 Master programs in Biotechnology and Genetics of Cancer (UCM, UAM, UAH, European School of Oncology, and CEU). I have supervised 12 TFM and 1 PhD thesis, and currently directing 3 PhD thesis. I have also supervised 11 technicians, and more than 30 MIR/BIR students during the last 5 years.
