Sandra Hervias Parejo

I am an island ecologist studying how island communities are assembled and function under a global change scenario. One of my main research interests is to study the population dynamic of keystone species and the ecological and evolutionary consequences of their loss on delicate island ecosystems. I have specialized in island systems and working on projects covering several archipelagos, namely the Canary, Azores, Madeira, Berlenga, Balearic, Galápagos, and Seychelles. My research has an interdisciplinary nature that combines approaches from population size assessment, nesting ecology, breeding success, trophic interactions, and global change biology. Throughout my scientific career, I have applied these skills to investigate how species and their interactions successfully cope with human-induced rapid environmental changes, mostly invasive species. My research has been published in prestigious scientific journals such as Proceedings B., Ecography, Functional Ecology, and Oikos, among others.
